Advocacy

The Nebraska Center for Nursing (NCN) has partnered with the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) via LB 227 funding to expand the work of the NCN to include several initiatives to target the nursing shortage in the state, such as:
An Innovative Approach to nursing education and clinical training through expanding clinical sites and clinical staff instructors initially to Critical Access Hospitals in partnership with local schools of nursing;
Reimbursing students for travel and housing when assigned to rural clinical rotations under the innovative approach in #1;
Expanding clinical simulation to colleges and universities participating in the Innovative Approach in item #1 by awarding $988,000 in equipment expenditures;
Designing a statewide nursing program information portal to provide information on nursing schools, options for students, additional recruitment, and data tracking for a ‘no student left behind’ approach;
Implementing a statewide nursing student internship to increase and retain the number of nursing students in the pipeline; and
Streamlining nursing student compliance training for clinical nursing education.
